SOMETIMES YOUR A COACH, SOMETIMES YOUR A PLAYER??

The good news is that the Sun Kings are currently 31-1. The bad news? You can't keep up those kind of numbers without eventually having injuries. Kipp's team was down 4 players as of game day, leaving them to act on the best option to win last night. Kipp signed a contract and suited up for the game. After all, he was familiar with all of the plays and players. Of course since it's been 4 years since he last played, I had to sit through the jokes "Should we have a stretcher waiting?" "Is there an oxygen tank in the building?" I was glad to see my husband prove them wrong. His court time was short...but effective. They won again.

CBA -- Short-handed Yakama edges Butte

Considering the last-minute roster shuffling the Yakama Sun Kings had to make Thursday, maybe their struggles on the court could be excused.

Then again, Yakama still suited up six players from opening night and were playing a Butte Daredevils team that used the same five players for the final 43 minutes.

What it all added up to was another victory, albeit an unsatisfying one, over the Daredevils.

Yakama got a second straight triple-double from Moochie Norris, but that was offset by an inconsistent offensive night as the Sun Kings held on for a 110-105 victory, their 17th straight.

However, Yakama lost each of the final three quarters -- all by a point despite having the final possession in each -- and had to settle for a 4-3 quarter points victory.

"When you play the same team three straight times, it's tough," said Norris, who had 24 points, 15 assists and 11 rebounds. "It's a situation where you'll take a win any way you can get it."

Yakama, already missing Elvin Mims and Ray Weathers, were without Anthony Washington, hurt in Tuesday's victory, and Tim Ellis (illness) on Thursday. To bolster its ranks, the team signed forward Jamaal Williams, who arrived 1 1/2 hours before tipoff, and assistant coach Kipp Christianson, who hadn't played in a competitive game since the summer of 2004.

Christianson only saw limited action in the second quarter, while Williams gave Yakama 10 third-quarter points, although he missed a fadeaway jumper in the closing seconds that would have given the Sun Kings the third quarter point.

"You can use that (the roster moves) as an excuse, but I didn't like our effort," coach Paul Woolpert said. "To beat a team by 36 points and then by 27 (on Monday and Tuesday) and then to give away these last three quarters (tonight) is troubling to me. This is a hollow victory."

What bothered Woolpert the most was Yakama's offensive effort.

Yakama entered the game shooting a league-best 53-percent from the field for the season.

Thursday, the Sun Kings didn't come close to matching that number in either half, and wound up at 45 percent for the game (43 of 96).

Yakama did finish with 27 assists, but only 12 came the seven players not named Norris.

"That's the first time I've seen selfishness sneak into our game," Woolpert said. "I'm not going to put up with selfish play on this basketball team.

"Our shot selection was horrendous. I don't know why, but I saw some pretty pathetic efforts out there."

Jason Sasser added 23 points and 13 rebounds, and Desmond Ferguson had 21 points and eight rebounds, but Butte was able to match Yakama's big three with its own trio of Odell Bradley (25 points, 11 rebounds), Martane Freeman (24 and 12), and Lemarr Farr (22 and 9), with Glenn Eddy adding 18 points and 10 rebounds.

Although Butte never led and the game was never tied, the Daredevils hung around to the end, thanks in large part by shooting 56 percent in the second half (19 of 34) and outscoring Yakama 27 to 19 from the foul line for the game.

Norris finally sealed the win by hitting two free throws with 13 seconds left, but his layin attempt in the closing seconds to win the quarter rolled around the rim and out.

"We better play a heckuva lot better at Oklahoma if we plan on competing," Woolpert said of Yakama's next game, on Saturday.

We are so lucky to have our own IT department!

Anthony has shown me more things , and fixed so many things that I have messed up on the computer- that I can't even began to count them! We wouldn't have any songs on our iPods, photos to download, or even a website if he wasn't so savvy!

He recently won the SKILLS USA award for the state of Washington by placing 3rd in their photo shop contest...(Now that I know this, I am going to have to have him digitally shave pounds off my photos after I have the baby haha)

WORKING HARD

In addition to Anthony's job in the restaurant of our hotel, he is also selling merchandise with his (girl)friend Regan at the SunKings games. They are hustlers and have managed to sell more in 3 home games than they sold they whole 1st half of last season.

I am really enjoying being the parent of a teenager. There is so much enthusiasm and willingness to learn about the "adult" world. Anthony looks forward to the days he is working and is excited to calculate how much will go in his savings by the end of his shift. Work is freedom to him... (I'm sure the fact that he gets to work with Regan makes things even more fun!) I quickly learned the importance of explaining the "life skills" we have all learned along the way when Anthony came home with his first paycheck, extremely upset because the government took taxes out. There was practically tears in his eyes while he tried to plead to me that he was just a kid and it wasn't fair! He had worked hard for his money!! I had to break it down simple... the food we eat? The meats? Medicine? It is all regulated by the government for our safety. To keep us safe it takes employees to monitor things, testing to be done...etc. It didn't make it any easier. He still feels like he is being ripped off, but he is beginning to understand the concept. We both had so much pride when he was able to deposit his first paycheck in the bank. He has also learned responsibility and how to use his humor with co-workers and difficult customers. The only downfall? He has now become the biggest cheapskate, since seeing with his own eyes how quickly his funds can go down!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

"We can always find something to be thankful for, no matter what may be the burden of our wants, or the special subject of our petitions."

Traditionally this is a day when family and friends get together to enjoy each others company and a BIG delicious meal. For us this year it will be a little different. Kipp is in Texas and they have a game today, he had his Thanksgiving dinner yesterday. Anthony is working at the restaurant in the hotel where we live, and I will be hitting the buffet and getting a good laugh out of having Anthony wait on me!

I woke up today reminiscing about previous Thanksgivings and places that I've spent them. I remember the joy of cooking for 40 people as well as being the guest in Austria with a family that didn't (obviously) celebrate Thanksgiving, but was aware of our tradition and cooked up a big feast for the "crazy Americans." No matter where I've been, these things always remain consistent... Gratitude, reflection and lavish feasts. It's important to remember the people that are in our lives and how much they mean to us. Thanksgiving day also epitomizes the holiday mood of people.

THANKSGIVING FACTS:

**80% of the people where we are currently living are Native American, of the Yakima tribe. I have learned that until recently, people believed Thanksgiving Day to be a celebration of pilgrims, offering food to Indians. It however is a day marked as a gesture of thanks and gratitude to Lord almighty for his blessings. It is also a celebration to mark the respect towards Indians for teaching the pilgrims how to cook. Pilgrims could not have survived without the help of the native Indians.

** On October 3, 1863, President Abraham Lincoln issued a fresh proclamation calling for the observance of the fourth Tuesday of November as a national holiday. Later, President Franklin D. Roosevelt moved the holiday to the third Thursday of November (to extend the Christmas shopping season and boost the economy)in the year 1939. After a storm of protest, Roosevelt changed the holiday again in 1941 to the fourth Thursday in November, where it stands today.

THANKSGIVING JOKES: (Lauren, these are for you!)

Q: Why did the police arrest the turkey?
A: They suspected it of fowl play.

Q: Why did the Indian chief wear so many feathers?
A: To keep his wig warm.

Q: Why did they let the turkey join the band?
A: Because he had the drumsticks

Q: What happened to the Pilgrim who was shot at by an Indian?
A: He had an arrow escape.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!!

YAKIMA SUN KINGS

Kipp's team holds the title of the past 5 championships. If they continue to play as well as they have for their first 4 games (all wins!) then they will be well on their way to a 6th. Here are some photos of Kipp's coaching debut!

Kipp Moved out of his Wisconsin house... and we moved into our Tampa house

Hi Everyone!! I stopped writing on our blog because people that I have never met were viewing it... it kind of creeped me out! But after having some time to think about it, as well as needing a place to post what we have been up to for family and friends, I have decided to start it up again. I really enjoyed logging on and giving updates. It was fun to have a "diary" to look back on and remember certain days. Anyway! So I don't bore you... here are the major updates since I last posted!
